Howdy Bobt, A Big apology to the Caretakers of the N.T. Roads, The road I referred to is actually in NTH QLD, running South from Normanton to Cloncurry, I reckon I've been kind just to call it a road, If anyone has traveled this road they would know what I mean, It's a single strip of tar and the traffic it carries is incredible, Meeting on-coming traffic means that both vehicles have one foot in the gravel stirring up dust and bouncing over pot-holes every couple of clicks. If I had a $ for every flood-way we crossed, I would be able to make a good sized donation to the Qld roads, Along with a weeee note "FIX THE FLAMIN ROADS" I'm surprised that the Thomson held together as well as it has, only one collapsed shock-absorber to replace, plus the cracked front window and a new wardrobe catch to fit. One good thing about being retired is that, if one gets sick of doing something, it's just left alone until the interest returns, May-be tomorrow........may-be next week ;D ;D ;D kiwijim ;D ;D

Howdy all, Well at long last I've replaced the front window of the Thomson with a new sheet of 3mm Poly Carb....... It's made a great difference to the view out-side.... compared with what we could see before....... when the window was finished, I thought I would strip down the tow coupling just to make sure there wasn't any cracking in the chassis, after being towed for 20,000 + kms.... "Not Happy Jan", this is what I found around the rear bolt hole of the coupling......... Looks like another job for the welder coming up. cheers kiwijim

Another repair to the Thomson almost complete, The draw bar is now welded......... and repainted....... While at it, I striped down the coupling to the last ball bearing again, cleaned and repainted the lot....... Getting it back together....... One more problem, I've never done any fibre-glassing and the coupling cover requires a coat or two, mainly to cover the hair-line cracks from stone chips........." Help Atog "

Hey Jim Now doesn't it make you feel great everytime you look at the A frame and through the front window? All that work behind you.
Much better than the sinking dread that comes with looking at the work in front of you. The unknown .... what will I find, feeling.
With the cracking around that drill hole... did you strengthen the area as well as weld it up?
Looking good mate.
Cheers Atog

Howdy Atog,
Yep it's great to see the results of a few days work,
I'm more than happy with the way the Thomson has stood the test of such a great distance traveled,
after a full inspection of all welded joints in the chassis, that splitting around the bolt hole was the only repair required.
With the splitting, I ground out the splits in deep Vees, then welded them well above the top of the draw bar, after that, all the welds were ground back level with the surface,
I then had to re-drill the hole as the weld had pretty near closed it.
Now my last problem...... How does one go about Fibre-glassing over the hitch cover, ? ?
It's probably a piece of cake to a Gent who loves the stuff, ;D ;D ;D
