In the new Brisbane Tunnel our (up to now ) trusty Prado while towing the modern, decided to go into "limp mode". Instead of following the "inner city bypass" we decided to head down to Fortitude Valley thinking it will be flat, no way, we had to stop as the car would not lift out of the tunnel while towing, disconnect the positive to reset the computer & continue on. Thats ok, all was well for a day until we left for our second leg of our journey & we broke down 4 x times more, ON COUNTRY ROADS with B Doubles, AHHHHHHHHHH We disconnected the chip with no luck, then had RACQ disconnected all the chip wiring , but now it seems like the car's electrics are at fault, as we kept breaking down, finally got back home? Stay tuned for Toyota's version ......you know the likely story ....its all your fault?

As with repairs from any type of dealer you will require a full wallet of high denomination notes. Oh what a feeling.

We visited our regular service guy who disconnected the chip & wiring loom, for a start, he connected their diagnostic equipment (it looked very fancy) & no error codes at all?? I then rang a car broker friend who was a previous Toyota dealer, he has never heard of a Prado going into limp mode?
So we will drive it for now, very noticeable drop in power without the chip. If it goes into limp mode again, our guy suggested not to disconnect the power but leave it 10/20 minutes to see if it will reset then he may be able to get an error code, hope I don't have a van on!!!!!!!
In the meantime we are checking out Land Cruiser's, boy they hold their price!! So why do we have a luxury car tax??? & massive import duties?? Cheers

A week is a long time in politics, well it's even shorter when your spouse loses confidence in the tow vehicle. Today she sold it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The local Toyota had run out deals & SHE was in the mood to deal.
Next week we will have a new Land Cruiser V8 ... & I have been warned .....no Chips. So that's the end of the story, a happy but expensive ending.

Well, that's a quick resolution to the issue! The V8 Cruiser will do it easy. 👍
(And they do respond well to a bit of fiddling...😇)
