I have read some threads about members using Wattyl Solagard and today I went to the Wattyl shop to see what will be their advice. Even if they say that will be ok I have the impression that they never saw one caravan painted with it and further more they were unable to tell me how long the paint will last in this type of application. I would like to know if any member have a van that was painted with Solagard 3 years ago or even more to see how it is performing. In any case I am going to send an email to head office care of the technical department to see what they have to say. Meanwhile I have call Haymes head office and they recommend to use one coat of undercoat Ultracover for having a good bond with the old paint and then use Solashield as a finish coat. I mentioned to them that I would like to use orange for the the trim on both sides to go with the orange of the seat covers and the gas stove and they said that i can use that color without any problem of fading because the UV light. Wattyl does not have orange for the exterior paints and their color range it is limited for the exterior paints because they cannot get a pigment that will not fade with in a short time. As it is looks like that Haymes will be the paint to use on the Franklin Arrow Inputs are appreciated.

Have a look at the supercheap enamel car paint. I'm pretty sure it'll be re-badged industrial enamel, so perfect for this sort of use. I figure it's probably Hi-chem enamel, after all there can't be to many paint manufacturers in Australia. I used it here: ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/2647/old-chesneyseeya Shane L.

Thank you Shane, I do not have spray equipment and also I have to paint the van outside here in Tasmania where the weather does not hold for over 12 hours. Water based paint it is the only option.

Hi Gitano. I also dropped into a paint store yesterday and they sold Wattyl and other brands. They seemed to frown a little when I mentioned about painting alum cladding etc with Solaguard. they reckoned Enamel paint with Etch primer is the go.
