1978 Millard Micro - MM3749

Hi All,
Just thought I'd post some pics & my story so far with my little M&M

I purchased this little classic about a month ago which I found on GumTree without viewing (other than the pics on listing)
I called the Bloke up & he Had 5 others interested in it & one was viewing on the following monday, now it was friday arvo when I made the call
I told him to give me his bank details & I'd pay for it then & there as it was sold (to me) & this was before I got permission off the Finacial Minister

Boy did I get a serve but once she viewed the pics & she was told it was on $700 she settled down a little

We jumped in the ute the following morning & set off to Vic (10hr drive) to pic here up
When I got there the bloke had it ready to go for me but for safety reasons we all know I had to check out my purchase
I crawled under & checked chassis & A frame for cracks, Jacked it up & checked the breaks,tyres & bearings,checked the lights were working & to my supprise everything was solid
Then Had to look at the inside & talk about a 70's look & I can tell you I was very happy with my purchase as it was basicaly original & was all there

Now I hooked it up when old mate come out with a cuppa & some biscuits for us & started on with the story about the van
It Started it's life of with a Minister & his wife from new until 1996 & then the second owner purchased (Old Mate) & sat on his block to live in while building his house until i purchased it

So After this it was getting late so we headed off on the drive home & I was supprised how well it towed for it's age & I only got about 3 hours into our trip & had to pull over due to the hunger pains
Once this was sorted we decided to have our first sleep in the little M&M, Not sure if I was tired or it was very comfy as I slept like a baby

Well this is what I got for my $700



Now after I got it home I had to give it a quick wash to get some of the grimme off it from sitting out in the weather for I don't know how long & this is how it scrubbed up
please note I didn't wash the roof by hand as it was covered in moss & all sorts so it was pressure wash a few days afte these pics were taken









Also here's a couple of inside pics














Now I have stipped Sanded the chassis & A frame & painted a flat Black
Replaced all the bolts on A Frame as well as the tow hicth, handbreak & cable
Next Job is to rip out & replace the old bearings & adjust the brakes
Also a new set of rims & LT Tyres

Once I get some more pics & further on I'll post them for everyone to see

Darren, great buy at $700. She looks in great order, just needed the clean. Obviously well cared for before old mate.

That sure is a sweet looking caravan..   It is also nice to have a little brother or sister still around

For the other members here on the forum - if you look at both mine and MMM signatures you will see that they are only 3 serial numbers apart, so if Al's theory is correct our 2 caravans would have been in sight of each other as they were being constructed  back in the day.

What a small world!
I wonder how many were made,back then I recall most people wanted bigger vans,and small ones were few and far between.

I'm sure I'll be asking you quite a few question in the near future about where to get certain parts & also how certain parts of your build may have been done

As the interior is in good nick & the fridge work perfect on 240v & gas also the gas stove I'll be focusing on the safety aspects outside first until it's regoed
My next target will be breaks & bearings then of to the way bridge before rego

What size wheel/tyres are on your van ? Mine were 12 " plus the brakes on mine were 8" and parts for them are no longer available, also I had 4 stud hubs (HAD)

Mate sorry for the late reply as I just finished reading your thread

My van has 5 stud 13 inch wheels with Holden HT stub pattern

I'm not sure on the size of my breaks are but looking at your pics they look like the same set up as mine now
Is there a way to measure these to find out the size of them

Mate when you remove the drum just measure across the inside edge to edge - mine had 205mm stamped inside the drum, you may be lucky and someone has updated the brakes/drums/hubs
