Thanks Carl for the info. I am debating if we also indeed need one, the only factor for us is Tassie weather but even so I think having an already heavy canvas soaked with water to be stored is not a good thing. So I am looking at options, such as using the annex roof part (cutting the sides off) and using a tarp like material if I need sides. I also dont want to carry the set of poles which are in itself damn heavy (not, I am very weight conscious) so your set up is a good compromise.

Amazing campsite and great setup! I think Im going to buy one of those tables. We used to have one but started sagging in the middle when setup and Im not sure my parents still have it in their garage anymore. 37 degrees in the van is a little worrying. Im guessing they cool down quick enough when the southerly comes through...
Really like the idea of that flooring. Is it just shade cloth?

G'day Andrew, we bought the table at a garage sale about 10 years ago, but I figure it's from the 1970's. It's bigger than the plastic ones you can get and because it's steel and plywood, it's very heavy, but also sturdy. The 37 degrees was bloody hot, but the portable A/C cooled down the van really good. The first two days were in the mid 30's, but we ran the A/C all the second day and the temp in the van never went above 25. The southerly came in on the second night and nearly blew everyone away. We were fine, but a van a couple up from us tore an annex. The mesh flooring was fantastic. Much thicker than shade cloth, here's where we got it from caravansplus.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=12730 - very reasonable price I thought.

Last couple of jobs before I go back to work. On our trip to Tuross, I got sick of the plain melamine bench top with chipped edging and decided to re-laminate all the bench tops and splash back with new Laminex. I used 20mm aluminium flat for the edging and put a screw every 100mm. I also did a cut in on the fridge side of the table to make it easier to get in and out. Turned out pretty good. Next, I decided to make air cond exhaust version 2.0 in the front side window so I can leave the AC under the table and not need to run the exhaust out the door. I used a piece of 3-ply and fitted the board inside the fly screen frame, fixing it there with cut down fly screen clips. Now I only need to open the window to run the AC and it doesn't get in the way. That ought to hold me until our next trip. P.S. I also fitted the new window latches and they are much stronger than the re-production plastic ones, but did need to be filed down a bit to fit over the window edge. The plastic ones flex to achieve this, but these metal ones had to be modified.

If I cant salvage my original edging I am going to be doing what you did with that edging. Neat work!
I also saw that mesh flooring on the caravans plus website last night so I answered my own question. Ill be getting myself one of those too.

Neat job, I like the use of the Laminex for the splash guard as well.
