should be about 70-80 litre tank would fit no probs and maybe bigger but the brackets are standard so go for what you think you need. Pete

Hi enidb,
This is probably a bit late but... You mentioned leaving the old ply on and adding new over the top. I did this in a 22' 74 Viscount a number of years ago to both the ceiling and the the walls, at the same time I resealed the roof as you have done. I never got another water leak with it and the linings remained clean and in tact. I put the sheets on using no-nails and screwed it in place. I had the van in storage for about five years and only used it on holidays. every time I opened it up I dreaded the idea of smelling damp or mildew and seeing sheets falling of, these fears were never realised. Lining over the top is a good viable option when not wanting to tear the existing cabinetry apart.
Cheers, Gavo.

As Gavo did , I decided to cover my ceiling by glueing sheets on top of existing(under). In my case as I moved the hatch to a better position over the bed, but also to cover the light holes and cut-outs. However I used laminex cream in a pearl lustre to lessen the excessive wood grain look inside. The advantage of laminex is it is waterproof and stain impervious (used for counter surfaces). The cost can be scary but planning carefully with the cut, I used only one sheet and there is no finishing required ( no varnish or sealing). Another trick is to use pvc edge beading to hide the slight gaps on the sides, as gaps are inevitable. These are available at Bunnings and are available in several wood grain colours as well as white. They are also available as 45deg edge or straight joint edges.

Can I ask a question regarding Viscount Caravan Windows and the internal fly screens in the channels? Mine are looking tired, however they are functional. Would any one know how I might take them out of the channels to replace the fly wire? I phoned Caravans Plus today but they don;t sell them and Peter said that I should be able to pull them out of the channels and get new fly wire and put them back myself. I'm SCARED!!! What if I can't get them back in ha ha :-)

G'day enidb...long time no hear from! I modified your post and transferred it over here to your thread about your van. If you ever have any questions relating to your van, just keep posting them in this thread and it will keep the full story about your van in the one place. I can see in a couple of your photos on Page 1 of this thread, that the flyscreen above the kitchen sink is hanging down loose. Is this screen fitted to the wall with clips, and are all the other screens in the van fitted the same way?? I can't readily see an example of what you're talking about when you say they are "in the channels". Do you have a photo showing that? cheers, Al.

So, logging in again after a long time……..looking at this thread, just wanted to say that I finished this mess of a van and it turned out to be solid, leak free and sound. I got it to basic level then a guy bought it from me to make it into a coffee van and then I bought another van. I'm now doing up a Viscount Royal for my self………I've still got my franklin horse drawn carrawagon featured on the Vintage boards .

I Am Just wondering if anyone knows where to get a replacement hatch for the roof. or what brand and size hatch would fit in there to replace. The previous owner has teck screwed the hatch shut and siliconed it as well as taken all raising mechanism has been removed.

What state are you in Cameron? Old thread I know but just some info on those wheels. They are HT wheels and if you have the ones like in the pics with the slots in them don't chuck them as they are worth money if in good nic. From what I have seen and been told they are classed as a type of GTS rim off the HT series. I actually have 3 of them in VGC with original GTS hubcaps. So people don't throw them as they are worth a few bucks. Volvo wheels are the same pattern as HT except the studs are bigger on the Volvo pattern. My Viscount had Volvo wheels on it when I got it. (Still have Volvo rims if anyone wants them FREE). Valiant pattern best of my knowledge is same or similar to ford, not holden.
