Gday . I recently bought a Viscount Ambassador 13'4" x 6' 10" Chassis number 918E year 197-? Previous owner had 1/2 done a repaint with a horrible blue colour. Repainted Bodgie tail light wiring. Replaced with LED

I have also changed the single beds to a double and added a cupboard with a microwave beside the stove . It was done in a hurry because of work commitments . Which when time permits will be finished off to match the rest .

G'day mickthemungrel, and welcome to the forum! ;D
Looks like your Ambassador is in pretty reasonable condition. It's from the first half of 1970, or the first half of 1969. The chassis number of 918 would have been built very early in either of those two years. The "lightning flash" side stripes were used in both of those years, so it's a bit hard to work out exactly which of those two years it falls into.
Yep, the blue interior was bit harsh to the eyes, so you've tidied that up nicely. Some major work on the floor too, by the looks. The old Viscounts just keep on keeping on, so it'll serve you well in the coming years.
cheers, Al.

Hey Mick Glad to see you found your way over to Classic Caravans. I see you are a regular poster on Caravaners Forum. You will find it a lot quieter here.... no where near the amount of controversy. ;D ;D ;D Looks like you have a project there Mick. Are you intending on doing much to the old dear? From your photos she seems watertight. Cheers Atog

Thanks Atog . yes the ol girl is fairly water tight . The only leak that I have found is from the skylight which the previous owner (bloody moron) replaced the hatch with . (2 bits of perplex with big dobs of solelastic ) It is only a tiny drip and not all the time . I have in mind to fit a 4 seasons hatch . First item is to remove the front window and fit a a/c in there , because it is a alloy frame van Im getting a frame made the size of the window to fit the a/c into them small windows either side . Have plans in mind to fit a underlay chassis with a longer a frame also new suspension and axle with electric brakes . The cupboard that has the m/w in it will be tidied up and painted to match the rest . That cupboard and the bed base were done in a hurry because I needed the van ready to use during harvest here in SA . Im no cabinet maker bit I do the best I can .

I had the same problem of year identification. I have a Viscount Ambassador Alumvan. The Chassis number 581E had me baffled until Franklin1 at Vintage Caravans came up with the answer. In about 1971 Viscount changed the numbering system & put the Letter at the end. The first number is the build year & the rest of the numbers are the progressives. Nice Van, well done.
