This is it folks! Make or break time . With the long weekend (Melb Cup) I need to break its back or it will not make the dead line. Tick Toc. Good start, the steel came for the rear bar/spare wheel Carrier ,the cupboards are sitting in place & the couch guy came at 9pm last night. Couch in boss very happy ;D ;D ;D. One little problem,as there was no door on the van, someone removed the board i had across the door. Enter Puppy dog The new split system needs a new remote control & filters , plus I need a few new double pole power points Cheers Gav

Hooley dooley, Gav...you're working like a 'man possessed' on this project! New bits and pieces are flying thick and fast all over the place! That fuse box in one of your photos looks like it'll power a small factory. I gather you've got a fair few appliances in the van? Really nice job being done on the van. It'll be a real credit to you when it's all finished. cheers, Al.

"By Geez" Gav, There's no holding you when you decided to do some renovations is there? Fantastic job you've done there, I can guarantee your van will be still going strong, Long....., Long, after the modern square box's being sold today have been hauled off to the scrap yards. I'm glad its not me doing that wiring at that fuse box,"man" what a nightmare that looks like, When you hit the road, be prepared for the continual knock on the door by quizzy people wanting to know all about your van Cheers kiwijim

Thanks guys. It is really starting to take shape. I know the fuse box is a bit big, but it was the only way to keep everything neat. There will only be two 240v circuits, 1- air con 1- power points. Only things that will draw 240v is microwave, fridge (240/gas) & TV (240/12v) & cetek charger. The rest is 12 v. From the pic, i forgot to take the old breakers out. Cheers Gav

Wow, wow, wow, this looks fantastic. Nice work!
Was that 1.6mm checkerplate you used Gav? I've checked a couple of suppliers here and they are all around $95.00 for a 1200 x 2400 sheet. How did you go bending it to suit the curves?

Hi Ray. Yes it was. I bent it using a 250mm sewer pipe. After it was cut to length, three of us put our knees on the pipe & bent the sheet. It worked great.
Cheers Gav

G'day gav, You continue to do great work on this van. It's almost like we are watching one being built on a production line somewhere, rather than being built in your shed. The quality is outstanding! Do you have a feel for what the tare weight of the van is likely to be once you've finished? I'm looking at all the modifications and additions you've made, and thinking, "Struth, I hope ol' gav has got something decent to tow this with!" Maybe it's just an optical illusion, and the van will be as light as a feather. ;D cheers, Al.

Hi Al. Thanks for the feed back. I hear you. the van started with a tare weight of 850 kg on the rego sticker OUT -Steel bed frame. 4 burner stove/ oven. Glass windows. Table with steel frame. One extra cupboard & it's bench top . Ripped out a lot of chip board. IN - Extra timber supports for the roof & fixing in the walls. Plastic windows. Bumper bar. Lots of wires. Air con (head 9.5kg motor 27kg ). Steel frame to hold the air con. Levelers. A lot of bits have been, just up graded I hope i have not increased it to much, as it now has more space in it. it might be up by 150 kg. I hope less The TV might just tip it over ;D ;D As for the car 80series land cruiser. I love it Maybe the Iload might get hooked up to it Cheers Gav

Hi All. One of the dirtiest jobs has to be resealing the roof (which started this whole Reno). Cleaning up the old J mold. Wire brush on angle grinder works great, to get rid of multi-, layers of roof sealant, as will the wire wheel in the drill for inside the J mold & the edge of the van were it will be re-fitted & sealed I wiped all parts to be sealed with, plumbers clear cleaning fluid first then, sikaflex pro on the van & the J mold. Clean up is a pain have plenty of toilet paper to get rid of the excess. Spray soapy water everywhere. Using a scraper remove excess, then using a rag soaked in turps clean up the rest. It came up great One side of the roof is done &sealed The protection for air-con & gas bottle is close to complete ,as it was getting to hot 37o Cheers Gav

G'day Gav, Looks like you've had a lot of "fun" putting all the new sealant around the van, but the end result is looking fabulous. Can I ask a couple of technical details about the air conditioner? What is the heating and cooling rating of the unit in kilowatts, and do you know how many Amps it draws when it's operating? cheers, Al.

G'day Al. That sealant is great stuff two tubes on one in the bin . it did the job . As for the tech info ,my sparky mate said it will draw next to nothing when up & running. I took a photo of some of the spec's.It is the smallest one i could get with heat & cool. Plus it only cost 600 I found a fridge bloke who was willing too re-seal the dometic fridge. Lou $80 great job. The boys at Arrowood gave me a piece of laminate for the front. ;D Cheers Gav

Thanks for that Henley. Had a look at it the spare wheel & bracket was on the A frame before & 150mm pipe full of poles are gone. The air-con motor is 27kg. I think i might have added 20kg to the draw bar, from the weight that was there already I thought of welding some 40x5 plate on edge. Thinking of it Cheers Gav
