Great post The Tinkers! I am biased as my first & only caravan is a 16`Arrow. I have been living in it since late July & very pleased to kep discovering things, like the first few sleeps with it on level ground, unhitched & no stands deployed i tippy toed to the rear bed convinced it would fall under my weight (100ishKGs)as the tow ball weight was 80kg but touch wood stable as! After being snuggly warm under a doona in the low to sub zero temps & recently with 38-42c i have been very impressed with the insulation & ventillation qualities. I am currently parked next to a row of shady trees so during the heat wave the hot V cold creats a very slight breeze inside so any sweat is evaporated off the skin plus so far the max internal temp has been 28c in 42.3c external! (i hate air cons).*stoked*

(i hate air cons).*stoked* Thanks ate, Where do you live? We travel between the Central Coast and the Far South Coast. We read an old Franklin ad last night which was boasting about the insulation (which we agree seems to be working pretty well). And the frame. And the Aluminium. Each thing has a specific Trade Mark Registered fancyspangled name, and we're studying profusely to remember them all to sound as intelligent as possible in Franklin conversations. You can go too far, of course. The ad has a long dot list of features, small details which may pass one into nerd level. But the emergency brake is cool. We've passed through the first 24 hour honeymoon of our caravan, and are noticing little things that need fixing. The door isn't a little thing, though. It's a replacement door with a metal security plate over the fly screen hinged in reverse, so when you open the door the metal screen easily does incredible damage to the van itself. And did, day one. To put us back on the new Franklin upper, we went shopping for new curtains. It already boasts a funkarama original lino floor pattern (something the ad failed to mention), and my style-savvy wife is onto interior complements. The van didn't come with an annexe, so we're working on that. Our Franklin wishlist: Annexe, original outside light cover (which was smashed by the evil metal door cover), front stone guard, door, water tank repair. Thanks for getting in touch. We've moved into our new little 'home' already and are loving it. Once again the interior design is impressing us. As the old ad promised it would. p.s. We hate aircon too. And microwaves. We can normally do without televisions, as well, (forget the 60s, we like livin' in the 40s, man) but with a 13yo we've had to make some adjustments. It will be one, though, that we can hide away in a cupboard. That search is turning out more complex than the curtains. Different ratings, stars, designs. And then the mysterious caravan 250v plug. Once again, cheers. *stoked* backatcha. The Tinkers

Lol i am currently holed up in Thornleigh, i will find out if i am near Kings Park till Xmas or will go up to mates place on the Sunshine Coast, My original door has no key so i am without the half door opener, the original light has been replaced by an ugly fluro, it has the sail track to fit an annex, many scars show it used to have one, I started a thread here with a few pics -> ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/2821/franklin-arrow-1976-16ft-w8566 So far i am glad i did not do what i wanted to first up as living in them shows up weaknesses & strengths, being of a certain age i do not mind being imersed with the 16yr old me bold bamboo & timberwork, that is in far too good condition the make white just for "modernising or looking brighter etc", at least being solo i do not have that committee thang & urgency for change lol. What i have been way to lax in is getting the 240V & instaling a 12v system, i have survived quite well with a modern 3x AAA LED dolphin, having various houses to shower watch tv play computers in the past few months have delayed my refurb as it is just a fancy stand alone bedroom & day dream recepticle for a few hours each morning. So next year i hope to get this thing sorted into a self contained free camping champion of the highway & by-ways haha!

G-day All,
My name is Ken, from Willunga in SA. I acquired a little Franklin pop top, chassis no. X7628, it was bought and first rego'd in 1976 by its previous owners. The van had seen better days and it was a toss up between renovating or burning it. I choose to renovate and have been doing so since Oct. thus resulting in the caravan name change to FRANKKEN Will post some pic's soon of the build etc. My little avatar is a current pic of the Frankken
Hopefully get to know a few of you as time goes by
Cheers Ken

G`Day and welcome aboard Ken, many of us seem to use the "Hall Of Fame Area" to blog the progress of our caravans, see the how to for uploading of pics etc or feel free to ask, if you are familiar with chat boards then post away! ditzygypsy.proboards.com/board/10/hall-fame See how they like to use this format for a thread, which in your project may be "1976 Franklin pop top x7628 : Maybe with its name Frankken at the end?

Hello, I'm Caz. My partner is Paul and we have bought our first caravan/camper. We looked around for a real cheapy as we don't know if well use it enough to justify the expense. After checking out the options from camper trailer to pop top caravan we settled on a 1975 Prattline. It'd in good nick and useable right away but I intend to have some fun decorating the inside. I love that it has the pump up roof but doesn't need to be pumped up to duck inside and do a quick change or get to the fridge, especially if its raining when we pull up. Now we just need to decide where to go first!

I see a few people are looking for Millard year of their vans, me too. My van is stamped M53586, anyone got any ideas. It was white and ugly woodgrain strip. Had double louver windows, most have triple wind outs. Searched far and wide for info, even rang Millard, no records kept. Attachments:

hey all I am Tiny from a little town in western NSW I have a 70s viscount and am here to get as much help as I can and be of help if I can be G`Day Tiny, best set up a thread in the hall of fame then with a mix of pics and words our experts and have a chats like me will see what we can do. See how they set up the name include your chassis number brand type etc. You can host pics for free on sites like upix.me that never delete access, photobucket have a limit on bandwidth use so after a while you may see results like the not found pics above, or older expired ones with a froggy cartoon. Just remember to select family safe so no nasty adds appear to shock visitors!
