Hi again everyone
and of course
Welcome ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D to our new members
Seems the clan is growing slowly and that is great to see.
Just remember when you register as a member you will need to activate your membership
That is via logging on if I remember correctly.
Some of those that have registered haven't logged on and so are not activeated. These will be removed after a couple of months if you forget to log on. So please use your members name and log on when viewing the site......
Cheers and welcome Atouchofglass aka Atog

Hello All The first caravan I owned was a Capricorn made in 1965 Bought it for $800 and sold it for the same after many happy trips. I currently own a 1975 Capricorn that we tow around with our 1991 commodore. You can hardly tell its behind you. Just renovated the kitchen by putting in a four burner cooker and revamped the floor covering with floating timber floors. Christmas time we will be heading off to the National Caravan Rally in Elmore Victoria. This will be our third national rally. We have one heaps of trips and really enjoy getting away.

Hi thAll, So pleased that I joined a few months ago and that there are now 200 members for us all to share snippets with etc. With this in mind, who has the ideas to get the ball rolling about when and where as many as possible of us could maybe meet up with our classic vans that are registered. For us, we would prefer in the autumn or spring months somewhere in NSW or SE Qld. somewhere a bit off the main tourist trails. We hope to get to Canungra in November to see the vintage vans, they certainly seem to be an organised bunch. I believe they will be in Coledale, south of Sydney in the next couple of weekends but unfortunately we won't see them there this time. What are everyone's thoughts on a get to-gether weekend or whenever for our classics?? Cheers, Millie

Slowly, slowly the Classic forum increases its membership. ;D ;D
Good to see the level of interest in the '70s vans increasing. Still far too many of these vans lying around Australia to be considered "scarce", so probably be another 10 years before they really reach the stage where "everyone wants one", and the membership of this forum skyrockets.
For those of us who are in the game early, best to look for the really good examples available while there's still plenty to choose from, and the prices are relatively "cheap".
Millie, with only 200 of us scattered around Australia, it would be hard to get people to meet up for an outing. Having said that, things have to start somewhere, eh?! We also like to travel in the Autumn, usually after the Easter break. Everybody else has gone off the roads, and the autumn leaves provide some fantastic scenery around the place. No hassles about finding a spot in a caravan park, etc etc.
Bear in mind you can join in with the Vintage crowd if you wish. Some of them can be a bit pedantic about ages of vans, but I just ignore them and park next to another Classic (or park on my own as I did in the Mildura Vintage Nationals back in May), and then go talk to the people who'll talk to me (most do).
The next Vintage Nationals are in 2012 and will be in central western NSW somewhere, so make sure you put that in your diary when the final arrangements are made.
Keep raising the subject of an outing for Classic vans (or whatever vans) sometime next year. Maybe you can start a new thread in the Classic Caravan Social Scene section, and see who's interested as time goes on. I reckon we'd be keen to participate.
cheers, Al.

Hey Everyone Have to agree with Al The idea of attaching ourselves to the Vintage Vans is a good one. You can have a foot in both camps ....... Errrrr some of us do. ;D ;D ;D But a Classic Caravan get together would be a good one. Perhaps in the South East Qld area or Nthn NSW Bit of a trip for some of us but fairly central for anyone on the East Coast. It doesn't stop any of us meeting up in smaller numbers and just enjoying a weekend for three or more vans that are local to your area. So maybe someone in each state could arrange for a weekend meet. As this isn't a club ..... anyone can make arrangements So if you are so inclined..... give it some thought and start a thread. Just a thought Cheers Atog

Just a thought on the subject of getting together. A couple of us with classic vans went to the Seniors Muster in Deniliquin this year. It was really well organised with a variety of things happening throughout the four or so days. Mind you, as far as classic vans go, we were the only two classic vans there, surrounded by every other type of caravan, campervan and motor home available, but hey we stood proud lol Chez

Hi all! We received a Millard pop top caravan yesterday. It needs a bit of work done, I thought it would just need a coat of paint, but after reading some of your posts for the last half hour, I'm a little disheartned!!! Maybe it's more than a coat of paint! I'll take some photos, and upload them in a little while (gotta figure out how to do it first!!!) It's in fairly reasonable condition, just a few marks on the roof & front wall, from some water damage ~ Must have been years ago..... The fly screens in the canvas pop top may need replacing, there's a few holes in it and the stitching has come updone. Some of the windows don't open, but most do. And it has no roll out awning for an annexe to attatch to. Everything else furniture wise seems to be in ok condition. We do a lot of camping, have always used tents, we have some amazing stuff that we've bought over the years. It's gonna be a huge jump into using a caravan for our trips! (dunno if I'll like the transition too much! LOL!!) ~ The kids are excited about it though!!!

Hi paganorcaluva
Welcome a board... you sure picked a tag that is a hole lot of typing..
Don't be disheartened. Start you own thread and post some photos. Once you get into it you will enjoy it.
You could be out using it quicker then you think.

After reading the about the membership numbers growing to over 400 now, I have to say WOW as well. And we should have our little van in the next few weeks. Anyway, my brother is GIVING me and my family his 1978 Viscount Royal 17footer, had a look at it today, love it. And after seeing some of the fantastic restoration work going on by members here, I can't wait to get it home and started. We currently have a camper trailer, but I'm getting tired of the 2 hour set ups/pack downs. Will post up some piccies once we get her home. WooHoo , Ray, Alena, Megan and Tessa.

Welcome Raywise. Given a 1978 Viscount !!!!!!!!!! You must have a really nice brother ;D ;D ;D Look forward to your restoration/clean up photos. There are plenty of nicely renovated and restored vans on the site. Yours will be another one in the near future I'm sure. So let the games begin. Hard to believe the site that was almost dead in the water has grown so much in such a short time. Goes to show just how popular these vans are. With all the newer vans being either overpriced or just poorly made, at least with a restored van you know what you have. And usually at a much more affordable price. Cheers and Welcome Atog
