Hi Atog & others,
Yes it is I. As I enjoy most old things, mainly cars, caravans, bourbon & women, but not neccessarily all in that sequence, I thought I'd look at what you guys with the new vans are up to.
Something always amazed me at caravan events, & thats the cut off year.
To my eyes an old caravan is just that. There's something indefineable creates a spark of interest when I see a van, or any of my before mentioned favorite things, that I like the look & thought of.
After all, life is just a proccession of enjoyable mental stimulation occurences. The more enjoyable they are, the happier & more contented you become in life.
Back to caravans. I can readily distinguish in my mind what constitutes a van I like. Many of the 70's vans are barely different from the 60's ones. To that end, I dont see why a Classic van wouldnt be welcome at most Vintage van events.
That gets back to the main purpose of my going thru the complicated process of joining this forum.
Thats to extend an invitation to any classic vanners that want to participate in our South East Queensland group outings. At our Mooloolaba outing, there were several vans attended that could have been 70's or late 60's, I'm unsure. There was also a home made teardrop, only recently built.
There wasn't any problem that I was aware of with them all fitting in & being welcome. We only do it for fun, & we've managed to develop a pretty good friendly group, that keeps growing in numbers.
I cant speak for anyone else, but if you're up here & would like to attend, Boots & I will certainly be glad to see you at our functions.
Lifes only about trying to enjoy yourself

As for attending..... The dear old 68 won't be finished this year I suspect (Glad it wasn't built in 69 )But anyone else with a travel bug and a van could make it surely? ;D ;D Atog Ps keep up the posts JBJ

I have spent a numbers of years refurbishing my 2nd millard. part time job. Just registered it and previous registration had it as a 1971 model. inside ply that was pulled out had M43 845 and 16/2/76 written in pencil. Little steel plate on braw bar has this number also. It has a 4 season hatch with 3 leouvers and looks very similar to someother ladies who was looking for a year of manufacture. I have hounded Millard etc etc with e males but cant decipher chassis number. No gas compliance plates on fridge or chassis. Can someone share thoughts please

Hi Les.... I think it might be my millards that you are reffering to? M26071 is my millard number on the drawbar. It has a fibreglass hatch and original hubcaps. There are pics in the members photo album. The rego number in case anyone wants to track the year down is J95434. I also have another Millard which has a four seasons hatch but compliance plate and chassis number are missing. Cheers, Trish

Hi Atog,
Cant get the info on our SE Qld august gathering at Pottsville on the Tweeed Coast until Mark gets the vintage van site running again, hopefully tomorrow. I lost the adress of this site for several days also.
But its at Pottsville, on the river next to the beach, in one of the nicest caravan parks you will find up this part of the world. Its in late August from memory, & luckily for me its only 45 minutes away.

Hey Trish, Just lookin at the photos of your green stripe van. That gas bottle looks like a 60s/70s job. Is there a date on it? Date could provide further clues. I would reckon if a van has a bottle from the 70s still on it now, it's likely to be ridgie-didge. The one on my York looked similar and (from memory) it was stamped X-73 (not really X, but I have no idea what month ;D). The York has the same beautiful brown stripe as your onsite van - kinda like mission brown (I think in 2008 they call it chocolate or maybe dark coffee ;D). Cheers, Gristy

Hi Lance,
Be very careful what you do trying to remove a dent from any creased metal panel , especially aluminium.
I've been playing with cars, hot rods & caravans for a lot of years now, & I'd be real wary of trying to remove those front dents. It takes an understanding of how the dent occurred, so you can try to put it back where it was in the right sequence, or else it will be worse.
You cant just whack on bog & sand it like you can with steel, glass or timber.
Maybe ( if you dont have the experience & skills to fix it confidently) get a sheet of similar aluminium, & make a few dents that look as close to what you have as possible.
Then try various ways of repairing them.
Aluminium is funny to work with, because it stretches easily when it is disturbed from its static condition.
Unless you can repair it by shrinking, you will NEVER get it straight, & will just make it worse.
All the best in your attempts, but be careful you dont make it worse.
I'll normally attack anything ( just look at my efforts on Vintage vans) but I wouldn't be game to try what your going to.

Thanks JBJ, I apreciate the advice. I will approach this a lot more carefully now.
I will post some pics of the dents tomorrow. They are really only minor but what you have said in your comments are probably the reason someone has not tried to knock them out previously.
Once again thanks.
Lance.
