Love that astor radio reminds me of my grandfather who had one ,he used to listen to the horse racing every saturday afternoon,I would walk with him as a 8 yr old in the morning to the bookies ,no T.A.B then. Do you collect -restore them Greedy ,as all older items they seem to have living presence about them that new products do not possess regards Peterg ;D ;D

Hi, I'm loving that Astor radio and the electric kettle is a spin out to say the least, way way before my time. I've never seen anything like it It is always nice to see things from eras past

Howdy greedy53, I did make a comment on the Astor Radio some time back but, I see it failed to appear here, What I asked was, does the Astor still go and does it emit the same music of it's period ;D ;D ;D ;D It sure reminds me of a Radio that sat on the window of my old folk's home, around 45 or more years ago, Ah the memories these old items bring back. Keep looking Mate, there are treasures in every Opp Shop. ;D ;D ;D kiwijim

My father-in-law still uses a reel to reel recorder, he loves them. My mum has an older version of that kettle, it looks a bit like a bird - a kookaburra or something similar, it's a weird looking thing ... now resting in her garden as an ornament??? And I'm sure we have some of those old jaffle irons hanging around somewhere, don't they make the best jaffles ever Subbie

Col, my husband, was a repairman, way back when. He recalls a bird shaped kettle, possibly from the 1940's. It may have been a Hecla brand... by Hecla, its good... was the catchphrase of the time. Cheers, Heather

I once made just under $1000 by raiding "bring out your rubbish" piles and putting the spoils in auction. An antique accordian accounted for half of that. Another time I found a box of old horse racing programmes and AFL magazines from the mid 1960's that fetched me an average of $30 an item. Its not just fun it can be worthwhile.
