A small item, but I cant get it anywhere!!!!! External cladding rivet covers? Bunnings only go down to 8 gauge. The required size is 8mm internal diameter and 10 mm external.

Never heard of rivet covers.

The rivet or screw sits in a plastic cup & the plastic cover clips over the top to hide the fastener.

Try an upholstery place, they use them mainly with screw's but you can use rivets in them as well, even a small bolt. They hide the rivet/screw and all you see is a small plastic dome cap

G'day mustang, There isn't much about Classic Caravans that we haven't already discussed on this forum since it started. The real challenge is to be able to find where all that information is now located. See this thread from 2008: Small Plastic Snap Caps for pop rivets? The link in that thread to Pro-Dec Products still works, and the snap-caps are still listed under the Products heading. That'll give you a starting point to work from. Your local Bunnings store might be able to order some in for you via the "Special Orders Desk" if they deal with Pro-Dec. cheers, Al.

Surely the 4/5 size would work ok?? You're only talking about another millimetre diameter in the cap. I reckon you'd be hard pressed seeing the difference.
I see in their table link that the "G" diameter for the 4/5 caps is showing as 2.1mm. That must surely be a 'typo' and the correct figure is 3.1mm? That would suit the 3mm shank on the rivet.

I think 4/5 would be too large, the outside of my cap measures 9.5 & Prodec are 11mm, size 6 is too big. I have contemplated using size 6 with silicone. Did i say silicone aaahhhh, wash your mouth out!!!! I will keep on as I have to have them. That doesn't exclude you guys beating me to the post .

Wouldn't a small washer between the section the cap snaps over and the screw fix the problem of being too big?

I think this will be as close as it gets: The original is on the left, the new on the right. Half a millimeter larger, they snap on but are loose, so if they were fitted with an adhesive ,that should suffice. A supplier told me it would be near impossible to get a snap cap supplied by one manufacturer to fit anothers base fitting? The supplier: Kelvindale Products P/L 32 Clyde Street Rydalmere NSW 2116 02 9638 0100 Quantity 250 = $66.26 + GST + Post Each = 0.53Cents + GST + Post (Ouch) If we can muster some interest I would consider buying the 250 bag & distributing?

So it's $15.80 per 1000 from Pro-Dec, and $66.26 for 250 from Kelvindale. I'd like to see a closer photo of the second one because I'm not picking up the gold plating in them. I also now understand why the size 4/5 wouldn't suit. For some reason, I was thinking you were replacing both the cap AND base, not just the cap. cheers, Al.

To drill out the rivets crossed my mind, but I would sooner leave sleeping dogs lay. Reckon I,ll buy the quantity of 250 & wholesale the rest. (I believe Prodec don't have this small size)

(I believe Prodec don't have this small size) Gday Mustang I had the same problem a few years ago and at the time was told that the originals weren't available . I ended up using the larger 6-8 gauge caps and used a paintable silicon compatable with both plastic and aluminium to attach the cap only over the rivet head (after replacing any loose or damaged rivets...stuff replacing every rivet lol) They have now been on about 4-5 years and still look good even after sitting in the sun for about 3/4 of that time and travelling SA to Qld and back 5 times and cost about $30 and about 2 hours labour (make sure that you prepaint the outside of the plastic caps for durability) Cheers Andy
