I have a dilapidated Princeton caravan about 21 ft long. The worst problem is the rusting out of the metal z section down the complete near side of the van. The former owners used two sets of steps to weld the walls to the main chassis in a complete bodge up job. I know nothing about caravan repairs but forty years ago renovated and extensively extended a condemned cottage in Northam, Western Australia. I'm currently moving to the southwest and will be living in this van for the next two years when I expect to be moving into my straw bale granny flat.
Today I was dancing on the roof whilst re-caulking the seams. The van appears to have been involved in a traumatic accident in the past.
My question is: Is it possible to weld in new z section without taking out all the flooring? I do not intend to do this myself as my limits on this job will be joinery, painting, and soft furnishings.
There is no furniture fitted on the nearside of the van as the previous owners had placed a standard kitchen sink unit up above the dual wheel arch which was far too high for me and has now been recycled into furniture in my grand-childrens bed-shed bedrooms.
Z section may not be the correct name for this steel section which the walls rest on and on which the floor sits.
Thanks Sissy

Good question. I have a Viscount and replaced mine without the floor, simply jacked the wall frame away from the chassis.
In the viscount the z channel held the wall frame( bottom of the z channel) and and also the floor (top of z channel)
Not sure if yours is the same but
So you MIGHT be able to unscrew the floor from the z channel and jack the wall away from and replace it.

Yes, I too had the same problem with a Viscount, however I stripped the Van out, removed the floor and had new z sections welded in then replaced the floor with new rivets. It's a good idea to drill holes through the alum channel into and through the bottom of the z rails to enable water to get out if it gets in otherwise it just lies there, also rust proof the new rails with cold gal or something.
