1972?? Viscount Valiant V561

Hi all need some help to find out what year my Viscount caravan that i have just done up is!! Chassis no is V561 and also is there a model name? cheers

G'day jj1975, and welcome to the forum! ;D

I think you'll find your van is probably not a Viscount, and might be a Franklin instead. Franklin used a chassis number starting with 'V' in either 1973 or 1974 (but more likely 1974). I've never come across a Viscount with a chassis number starting with 'V'.

You would need to provide us with a couple of photos showing the side-on appearance of the van, to help us identify the model.

Looks like a Valiant, which might explain the 'V' series chassis number. Maybe the Valiants got a 'V' chassis number before Franklin started using that letter. I'm fairly sure the Valiants were discontinued in the early 1970s sometime. Your van doesn't have the wind-out windows, which Viscount started using in 1973, so I'd say your van must be earlier than that. Do you think the green painted side stripe is where the stripe was originally (ie. has the stripe been repainted at some stage)?

Got a photo of the front of the van?

Thanks Al these are photos of when i got the van and yes when i was sanding it back under the green stripe it was orange the same as the orange cushions in the inside [vinyl]

I've changed the heading of your original post. We'll call your van a Valiant, and guess that it's from around 1972 at this stage. It does look like the Valiants were given a 'V'-series chassis number in the early 1970s, based on your example. If the green stripe was orange originally, Viscount switched to that wide band in 1972 so I think we are fairly close to the actual year of your van.
