Yep another Cabana......NO it's not like a polish sausage! Ladies and gentleman from the classic caravaners that brought you The Convertable Cabana before after here comes the sequel........ The One Ended Cabanabefore and....before more before's to follow. In short, it's been gutten and the roof lining and fibreglass is shot. Fortunately the framing is ok. The plans, to put in a new ceiling and replace the fibreglass (sorry ATOG) with aluminium. Then refit the interior with a single bed and seat combo to form a dinette/double bed/single bed and fit a fridge and microwave and some cupboards. Cheers Gristy

No offence taken Hooligan
Some people never learn to appreciate quality ;D ;D
As always we work with what we are comfortable with obviously aluminium is your forte.....
Just goes to show that you can do most anything with these vans .... all you need is the imagination and drive

Okay......been a long time (between drinks? ?....well something like that). WIthout boring you all to death with my personal dramas ....I will just say I have had some major upheavels in Gristyville in the last several months... Anyway, the other day as I walked by the carport and looked apon the two caravans occupying it's space (well part of the space).....I uttered some expletives about lack of progress on either van and decided it was long due time to take action. A few hours later, the 'one-ended' cabana is now a convertible (hmm something like the last Cabana I played with....). Herein pics do follow, the shot through the back window sort of hints that all is not as it should be...after all Cabana's never came with a skylight or roof hatch photo from above confirms the suspicions: The cabana has gone topless Anyway, the frame looks all okay, so some new ply and a reskin with alloy....sorry ATOG, I don't do fobreglassing....at least not that much square meterage! More to follow....hopefully it won't take another 10 months like the last progress!! Cheers, Gristy

No appreciation for fine quality fibres Good to see you back mate... Thought you had gone AWOL permenantly there for awhile OK so the cabana will have a tin lid..... at least it will have a lid.... Seeing your previous work .... it will look good no matter what it is made off. Looking forward to the next installment. All the best with the other challenges you must have and keep on Vanning ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

Greetings everyone. This is my first post to your forum and I'm looking forward to sharing stories and participating in many areas on your forum. I've owned a few 70's caravans over the past decade and my favourite was definitely the 10' Cabana. I sold the Cabana early last year due to water leaks and timber rot. Since then, I've been looking for the last model that was made (in 1986...I think) which I believe had aluminium framed walls. My wife wants to get an A'Van ....but I want another Cabana. Maybe the compromise might have to be both. Cheers

Welcome Cabanaboy
Glad to see another wise man with a love of the Cabana caravans
Had a 14ft when in my twenties Was very useful Even went through a cyclone once ...... bit hairy
Have upgraded to an Olympic now .... but the Cabana is still a good van for towing
Cheers Atog

G'day Lou, We had the same problem with an Olympic and had to take the roof hatch off and take it out that way. You could also measure up the windows and if one is big enough remove the window. Hope this helps. Cheers Bob and Jacqui ;D
